PALAZZO VIMANA began in Bucharest in 2022 as VIMANA, and started as an experimental joint-venture, an artist-run-gallery independent project initiated by a need to showcase on own terms, and create a coherent documentational framework, initially for a small group -n+1 of fellow artists. It was not intended to represent the exhibited artist, but rather to record and expose some of their activity and dialogs about art-relevant ideas, inherent limitations, and the Romanian art scene today.
Some things begin humble but with passion and conviction, and they reach a moment of transition. We believe that location is just an attribute of a gallery. The gallery is a sustained act of attention- to artists, to works, to the viewer. That act can take place in a physical space, in a carefully constructed online exhibition, in a catalog, in a pop-up on a collab floor in an unexpected city.
Palazzo VIMANA is a moving provisional architecture, rooted in Bucharest and New York, traversing networks of contemporary art across geographies and registers.
